The Places We Live features panoramic photos of slums, a project about urban poverty , narrated by the people who live there (through translators). Really really engrossing. To access the stories in the restricting Flash interface, skip the intro, click on a city, and then on one of the households in the upper left corner.
The Places We Live was not a search for finding the absolute extremes of urban poverty, the poorest hovels or the most crime-ridden street corner. It shows how people normalize these dire situations. How they build dignity and daily lives in the midst of very challenging living conditions.
